What is Microsoft 2FA?
It is an extra layer of security. When you log in, a notification will pop up on your mobile app asking, “Approve sign-in request?” Simply tap Approve to log in immediately without typing a code.
What You Need
- Your mobile phone (with the free Microsoft Authenticator app installed)
- A computer to access the settings page and scan the QR code
Setup Guide (4 Steps)
Step 1: Go to Settings on Your Computer
- Open your browser and go to: mysignins.microsoft.com, then log in with your Microsoft account.
- Click on Security info.
- Click + Add sign-in method.
- Select Authenticator app and click Add.
Step 2: Connect to Your Phone
- A QR code will appear on your computer screen.
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
- Tap the + icon in the top right corner -> Select Work or school account (or Personal account) -> Tap Scan a QR code.
- Scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen with your phone.
Step 3: Test the Setup
- Your computer screen will prompt a test, such as displaying a random 2-digit number.
- A notification will pop up on your phone. Enter that number on your phone and tap Approve.
- Your computer will display “Approved”—setup complete!
